SUSTAINABILITY... Ardrossan Area School students including Sienna Bond, Riley Brind, Scarlett Sims and Hannah Kingston explore the aquaponics facility, part of the school’s new Stage 1 Integrated Learning course.

Ardrossan Area School delivers programs which enable students to be critical and creative thinkers who positively impact local and global communities.

School principal Margaret Roads is inviting community members and families on-site to learn more on Tuesday, August 3.

“We are extremely proud of our new innovative sustainability program and the contemporary R-12 curriculum offerings, including Stage 1 Integrated Learning, developed through the implementation of an intensive aquaponics facility,” Mrs Roads said.

“This facility houses aquaculture tanks, silver perch, and an extensive hothouse and the infrastructure was co-designed and created with key industry experts.”

Mrs Roads said the development of entrepreneurial skills are also a focus of learning opportunities.

“Across the school, evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs are delivered,” she said.

“Initial Lit in our junior primary supports our focus on early years’ literacy.

“Students complete R-2 Investigations, Year 3-6 Inquiry Learning, Future Focused Learning at Years 7-9 and with Stage 1 and 2 Business Innovation at Years 10-12,” she said.

“Through the Shark Tank eSchool program, students in Stage 1 Business Innovation explore the entrepreneurial design process to develop solutions to world problems.”

Ardrossan Area School is very proud to have received recognition from the South Australia Area School Leaders Association.

“In 2020 we received the SAASLA Credit Union Best Practice Award for our Business Innovation program with Yorketown Area School and in 2021 we were Highly Commended for our Innovative Sustainably (aquaponics) program,” Mrs Roads said.

Community is also key at Ardrossan Area School, as the school values partnerships with its families and wider groups.

“This year our students successfully partnered with the Tiddy Widdy Progress Association Paint a Pole project,” Mrs Roads said.

“Our comprehensive transition program with the Ardrossan and Districts Community Kindergarten also facilitates seamless transition between pre-school and the school learning environment.”

The school is opening its doors as part of its 2021 Learning Showcase, with tours commencing at 11am, 2pm and 5.10pm, on Tuesday, August 3.
