Formal correction and apology

THERE was an error in last week’s edition — a caption with a photo of Ms Chantelle Thomas, candidate for One Nation at the March 21 state election, incorrectly stated “Liberal Party”.

This was a result of a formatting error in the “candidates speak” layout we have been using over a series of editions in the lead up to the election.

We have published a formal correction, and the YP Country Times again unreservedly apologises to Ms Thomas and Mrs Tania Stock (the Liberal candidate), in addition to apologies made in person and on social media.

Separately, as readers may be aware, inappropriate “emoji” reactions were made or published on social media, by or under the official YPCT account, to posts recording YPCT’s apology and correction of the print edition error.

Those “emoji” reactions were posted without any knowledge or approval of YPCT ownership, editorial team or staff.

We apologise, again, to Ms Thomas and our readers for this incident.

It has caused the YPCT significant concern.

YPCT took urgent steps when this was brought to our attention, including with the assistance of external advisers in IT and legal fields.

We have reviewed and tightened our social media controls and access. It has been a harsh learning experience.

In the circumstances, we won’t comment further, and YPCT will continue to investigate and will not hesitate to take such further steps as it sees fit.

We continue to provide fair, frank and fearless coverage of the state election. In this week’s issue, on pages 6 and 7, our candidates give their views on the right to farm and the use of land for mining, housing and other needs.

YPCT Managing Director
