A $20,000 donation from Australian Grain Technologies is set to help with the rebuild of the Yorke Peninsula Field Days office.
The administration building was destroyed by arson in 2019, with the blaze causing more than $150,000 damage — plus the priceless loss of all historical records and photos. Field days CEO Peter Anderson said the committee had applied for a grant through AGT, when gave the funds as a donation.
“We are very grateful for this donation, while we do have funds set aside for the rebuild project, it gives us the opportunity to do more,” Mr Anderson said. “We have earmarked the money for new IT equipment for the conference building and it will enable us to provide state-of-the-art technology on site.
"Our rebuild is still in the concept stage but we are very excited to plan two silo structure buildings —a larger conference building and an office with a kitchen and toilet area connecting them. “In an ideal world we would like to see it complete by the next field days.
“After a horror 2019 and a scaled-down 2021 event, we are looking forward to bringing back the field days in all its glory for 2023.” AGT variety support manager, SA, Brad Koster said the company had distributed grants to grain- growing communities around Australia as part of its 20th anniversary.
“Growers were invited to submit a summary of project details and how the funds would benefit the community that received it,” Mr Koster said.
“The allocation of these grants was decided on level of support within their respective areas as well as longevity of the project and alignment with AGT’s core value of bringing prosperity to the grain growers of Australia. “One of these submissions was from YP Field Days which would be using the funds to help rebuild their operations office that was destroyed by arson a few years ago.
“AGT recognises the invaluable role that field days all over Australia play in the sharing of knowledge, sense of community and in showcasing advances in agricultural activities. “We believe in helping the YP Field Days to rebuild their operational capabilities, AGT will be benefiting not only South Australian grain growers, but all farming communities who participate in these events.”
