THE Grains Research and Development Corporation is holding Farm Business Updates in Port Lincoln, Maitland and Clare next month.

Guest speakers will discuss topics identified by local growers as important to supporting their farm business management.

Keynote speaker Reanna Browne of Work Futures will share mindset strategies and skills you can consider for identifying and leveraging future opportunities to benefit your business, whilst acting with clarity and making resilient decisions in the present.

“Still with an eye on the future, on-farm emissions are one of the issues raised across the GRDC southern region of interest to growers,” a GRDC spokesperson said.

“We’ve invited Sarah Barrett and Jana Dixon of Pinion Advisory to break down why you need to know about on-farm emissions, what’s happening in the industry and what the capacity is for change within our farming systems.

“As part of a farm management focus towards making good decisions, Rick Llewellyn, CSIRO, will speak about setting the parameters of your analysis and weighing relative upside/downside risk for informed decisions targeting profitable outcomes.”

Agrista’s John Francis will demonstrate the financial models which can be used to stress test big or small farm investment decisions and Rob Dawes is an industry procurement expert who will highlight important factors when it comes to negotiating supply and managing relationships with suppliers in the current environment.

“We couldn’t miss talking about labour as it is consistently flagged as one of the key productivity issues for agriculture,” the spokesperson said.

“When it’s hard to find good help, Carmen Quade, Agrifocused, will present on practical tactics that growers can apply to manage business growth and increasing workloads and avoid being overwhelmed.”

The Maitland session will be held at the Central Yorke Cougars Football Club, 9.30am to 3.15pm, on Wednesday, July 5.
