WE were thrilled to walk away from the Country Press SA Awards last week with some recognition for our efforts.
Several second and third places for photos and ads, as well as winning several advertising categories, is a nice reward for our incredibly hard-working team.
We don’t create the paper for recognition though, we create it for our community.
The YPCT has, in one way or another, been telling the stories of the area for more than 150 years.
It’s a privilege to be able to bring you the most important news each week from right across the peninsula.
We were incredibly fortunate to finish third in the best newspaper with a circulation greater than 4000 category as well, which we think is pretty special.
Competition was tough across all categories, which in itself is something to celebrate.
Having thriving newspapers is so important for regional areas.
Where else do you find hyper local news, information on how local governments are operating, who else pushes for community concerns to be addressed or drives campaigns?
Where else do you see fascinating tales from unsuspecting members of your community, or people banding together to support others in the time of need?
We may not always get things right.
But it’s vital to provide a platform for readers to share their thoughts and views, to create discussion on important topics.
A regional paper is definitely something to celebrate and the Country Press SA Awards provided just the chance to do so.

Correction: In the letter Scrap woes (YPCT 21-2-23), it states Mr Filmer was fined by Yorke Peninsula Council on site. YPC staff told Mr Filmer it was a possibility, but no fine was issued.
YPCT apologises to Mr Filmer and YPC for the error.
