IT’S time to start working on entries for the Copper Coast Show, to be held Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16.

Budding artists can win from a prize pool of $1600 by creating a portrait of Yorke Peninsula sports legend for the Art Prize.

First prize is $1000, second is $500 and $100 will be awarded for third prize.

The prize is open to entrants of all ages and can be produced in any medium.

Winners will be chosen by a public ballot of showgoers.

Metal art has become a popular hobby on Yorke Peninsula, and enthusiasts are encouraged to enter their pieces in this category at the show.

Entries will be judged in three classes: garden ornament, metal art under one metre, metal art over one metre.

The prize money will be $100 for first, $30 for second and $15 for third, in all three categories.

First prize winners from all sections will be judged for the Grand Champion Prize of goods to the value of
$500.

Jams, sauces, pickles and preserves of all kinds are synonymous with country shows and it’s time for keen cooks to get out their saucepans and jars to prepare for the Copper Coast Show.

Convenor Michelle Cross says making your own preserves is a great way to save money.

“Usually, you can grow or purchase fresh fruit of vegetables,” she says.

“All it takes is a bit of practice, so I started with a small batch.

“Ask a friend for a recipe or there are plenty of options online, and start saving jars throughout the year so when the fruit season starts, you are ready to go.”

There are 24 classes in the preserves category, including marmalades, jams, and various chutneys, pickles, sauces, fruit or vegetable preserves, and dried fruit.

In addition to prizes for each class, aggregate points trophies will also be awarded.

Michelle says the judges will be looking for small pieces of fruit, the colour of the product, how well it’s set and, most importantly, the flavour.

All preserves entries are to be picked up after the show.

Show up to help the show go on

COPPER Coast Show junior vice-president Tash Westbrook encourages people to volunteer to help run the show.

“If you have ever thought about becoming involved in the Copper Coast Show, there
has never been a better time than now,” Ms Westbrook said.

“As the show grows, so do the commitments of the committee and, although several new volunteers have been warmly welcomed in 2026, the committee is still on the lookout for others who would like to become involved.”

For more information on volunteering, contact Tash Westbrook on 0427 605 498 or Rebecca Rich on 0418 812 016.
