FOR more than 15 years, Star of the Sea Community Care has been providing quality home care services to clients across the region.

Whether it’s support in the garden, help at home, bed making/laundry, shopping/bill paying, socially keeping you connected in the community, transportation to medical appointments or a drive around the countryside, the community care team is here to assist and support you.

Currently, the community care team has 87 home care package clients and 55 veteran home care clients.

“When I started in the role two years ago, we had 40 home care package clients,” Community Care general manager Mel King said.

“There’s just such a need for these services, we’re definitely seeing it increase.

“We have clients across the whole peninsula, as well as Peterborough and Port Wakefield.”

Mel said Star of the Sea Community Care can provide tailored packages for levels 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as private services on request.

“We have also employed nurses to be part of the team, which is hugely important in meeting the clinical needs of clients, and we also provide personal care services on weekends,” Mel said.

“The need for care doesn’t stop with the working week.

“The demand for home care services are increasing, and the federal government is recognising that by releasing more packages.

“It’s wonderful because it means people are able to stay in their homes longer.”

Mel said staff are committed to delivering a holistic approach to aged care, through spiritual, physical, clinical and emotional support on an individual basis.

“We welcome everyone with a warmness which breeds a sense of belonging and, like a trusted family friend, we provide caring based on compassion, respect and dignity,” she said.
