CLARE Valley Racing Club has been abuzz with activity on and off the track.
The CVRC Calcutta, with funds raised going towards the Royal Flying Doctor Service, will be held at Bentleys Hotel on Saturday, March 9.
“Bookings can be made directly to Bentleys, with doors open at 6.30pm and the auction beginning at 8pm,” a racing club spokesperson said.
“Then the next day, we gear up for the RFDS and SC Heinrich Family Race Day.
“This is the first of a yearly collaboration with the RFDS Clare Support Group to raise much-needed funds for the service.
“There’ll be something there for the whole family, with the RFDS simulator, face painter, FATR, full TAB, licensed hospitality options and a seven-race card.
“It will also feature an off-the-track section of led-in classes for retired racehorses, which has been a project for committee members Annette and Gareth Heron.
“Thorough Care SA is supporting the event and is looking to build such events across the racing clubs.”
The March 10 meeting is a great warm-up for the best Easter racing in the state, the Platinum Ag Clare Easter Saturday Races on Saturday, March 30.
“There will be a full seven race card, big screen, food court, fully licensed bars, SawMill Gin Bar, face painter, picnic garden and more,” the spokesperson said.
The club has also received funding from Racing SA to concrete stable floors and raise the roof on another stable block to improve horse safety.
