THE Nharangga Minlagawi Cultural Day is back for 2023, offering locals and visitors of all ages a chance to learn about traditional science, knowledge, skills, culture and caring for Country.

The celebration of Nharangga dhura (Narungga people) and culture will be held at Minlagawi Gum Flat Reserve, Minlaton, from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, May 7.

The event is proudly presented by Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association, Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Yorke Peninsula Council, with funding support from the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board’s Grassroots Grants program and Country Arts SA.

“Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success with hosts and participants enjoying a great day of coming together as a community,” council arts and cultural facilitator Sonya Rankine said.

“This year there are three guided walks to choose from.

“There is also the opportunity to sit with Nharangga Elders at the Nharangga Wambana Wanggadja (Narungga Knowledge Talking) circle.”

Free samples of bush tucker, including kangaroo tacos, wattle seed damper from the warm fire, lemon myrtle biscuits and kangaroo soup, will be on offer as well as other foods.

“A feature of the day will be the Nharangga Artists Market, a meet and greet where you can discover what inspires the artists and you may even find a perfect piece to purchase for yourself,” Mrs Rankine said.

“Also on offer is a variety of cultural activities to participate in, from a dance workshop to art making, Dreaming Stories to songs in language, face painting to string making, there is something for all ages.

“Pack a picnic basket and rug and enjoy the great outdoors of Nharangga Banggara (Narungga Country).”
