CARE in Motion’s Aged Care Volunteer Visitors program is bringing members of the community together.

The program is funded by the federal government as part of its Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme, which provides friendship and companionship to eligible older people by matching them with a volunteer visitor who will visit regularly and become a friend, thereby reducing social isolation, and improving their quality of life.

At a sprightly 92, Nancy Beare rocks her signature stylish hat and scarf combo from her extensive wardrobe.

Nancy lived an adventurous rural life with husband Les — she even held her semitrailer licence until a few years ago.

On her own for a while now after raising four kids and Les’s passing after 65 years of marriage, the volunteer visitors scheme has been perfect for Nancy.

With a treasure trove of tales and wisdom, Nancy is great company, according to volunteer visitor Melva Skipworth.

“I am a volunteer visitor and I used to love doing volunteer driving as well with Care in Motion,” Melva said.

“It does me as much good as it does her, we hit it off straight away.

“Nancy is great to talk with, we have a chat over a cuppa, sometimes go out for coffee or wander through her magnificent rambling garden.

“I always look forward to my visits with her, being a sounding board for her memories, she has become an important part of my life.”

Care in Motion is seeking more volunteers like Melva to spend time with members of the community.

“We acknowledge and thank our wonderful volunteer visitors,” Care in Motion CEO David McDonald said.

“We rely on them as they choose to give their time, energy, skills and experience to support older people in our communities.”
