HARVEST Christian College, Kadina, considers it a privilege and blessing to educate each and every student.
“From Harvest’s inception more than 20 years ago, the vision was for a school that provides a safe and secure space within a genuine Christian community for students to thrive,” head of primary Becky Hams said.
“This is reflected in our Mission Statement: To share the light of the Gospel through a Christ-centred education within a loving and caring Christian environment, giving students the opportunity to grow a Christian faith and develop their God-given gifts and talents, equipping them for a life with hope, meaning and purpose.”
Harvest Christian College staff believe a strong foundation starts at the very beginning, and with foundation numbers growing each year, they are excited to see this trend continue.
“Our primary college began using the STEAM approach for all students from foundation to year 6 this year,” Ms Hams said.
“STEAM education is an approach to learning that uses science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics as access points for guiding
student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.
“This approach to learning will benefit our students tremendously.
“Students and teachers engaged in STEAM make more real-life connections so school is not a place where you go to learn but instead becomes the entire experience of learning itself.
“We are always learning, continually growing, and constantly experimenting.
“We’re teaching our students the tools, skills and flexibility they need for the journey ahead.”
Staff know the journey will look different for every student, but hope each individual learning journey will be shaped by curiosity and discovery.
“We want our students to approach the complexity and volatility of the future world with confidence and the required problem solving and critical thinking skills they will need along the way to be resilient, resourceful and agile learners,” Ms Hams said.
“Working alongside our teachers, we also have a fantastic learning support team, providing research-based interventions and collaborative programming to meet the diverse needs of our students.
“Our team also includes a social worker, specialist teachers, counsellors and pastoral care to assess and identify the needs of our students and work one-on-one or in groups, in extension of learning support classes.
“As a thriving coeducational F-12 school, we love and appreciate our shared spaces and resources.
“Your child’s learning journey is greatly enhanced when your child is confident about who they are, where they belong, and where they are going.
“Commencing foundation at Harvest automatically prepares your child for the journey ahead.
“They will develop lifelong friendships and be guided by teachers who love and support them as they navigate their learning journey.”
