THERE is something for everyone these summer holidays with a huge range of art workshops on offer on southern Yorke Peninsula.
The Discovery for Recovery Program was developed in 2020 by the SYP Arts Development Group to help support regional communities on southern Yorke Peninsula by providing opportunities for social connection, local economic growth and cultural development though the arts.
A series of more than 30 art workshops have been available for community members and visitors throughout 2021 and into 2022.
An additional summer holiday program has also been designed as a family friendly set of exciting arts workshops which you can either attend with your children or drop them off and leave them for the day.
“So far we have had 70 per cent uptake rate for participation which has been awesome and equates to nearly 200 people,” project manager Jasmine Swales said.
“We have had workshops ranging from basket weaving and paint parties to jewellery and posca workshops.
“The program is funded until October 2022 but, due to its success, we hope to continue it as a long-term feature of SYP.
“Some of the upcoming workshops hosted at Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat in Warooka include fabric rag rug weaving, jewellery workshops, painting and more.”
Jasmine said an exciting workshop on the program is silver clay jewellery with award-winning regional artist Cindy Durant.
“About 80 per cent of our presenters have been regional artists and of those, half have been from Yorke Peninsula, which was an important target for the project,” Jasmine said.
“Country Arts SA awarded us $40,000 through the Regional Arts Fund which has enabled us to pull the project together and subsidise the workshops.
“This has meant the workshops are more affordable and accessible to people and means they may be able to participate in more than one.
“We have had a lot of people come back to multiple workshops but have also had new faces at every workshop which has been great to see we are reaching new people.”
