ORGANISERS of this year’s Yorkes Emporium event are preparing themselves for a big turnout.
Yorkes Emporium is the brainchild of Taste the Yorke owner Jo Gibbons, and will be held in Queen Square, Moonta, on Friday, May 27.
More than 400 people attended the first event in 2019 and numbers are expected to be high again this year.
“We had to cancel Yorkes Emporium in 2020 due to Covid-19, but we’re back and we’re really looking forward to this event,” Jo said.
“We want to showcase local produce and there’s a real focus on local seafood including prawns, whiting and oysters, and there will be pulled pork and delicious cakes, as well as local micro distillers and breweries.
“The aim of Yorkes Emporium is to really highlight the quality producers we have here and it’s only grown in the past couple of years.
“It is really an exciting time to be in the area.”
Yorkes Emporium is also a major event of the inaugural Copper Coast FLAME Festival.
“We know the economic benefit this event has to the region, and we only hope it brings more people here, encourages them to stay and then come back again,” Jo said.
“We have about 22 stallholders organised, including other businesses within the community.
“It’s our hope this becomes a real destination event for the area, something people look to every year.”
The party in Queen Square will begin at 5pm and finish at 10pm, with something there for even the youngest members of the family.
“There’ll be a face painter for the kids, while The Yorke Band and Gen X will hit the stage to entertain everyone,” Jo said.
“This year, we even have merchandise of a hoodie and a reusable glass, which can be ordered online before the day, or on the night.”
Yorkes Emporium is a free event, but attendees are asked to register with a ticket via searching Yorkes Emporium on www.eventbrite.com.au.
