A wicked Addams family adaption

I HAVE never been overly keen on The Addams Family but the new adaption of the weird and wonderful family in Netflix series, Wednesday, made me an instant fan.

I love a good thriller, mystery, drama series and Wednesday does not disappoint.

With a captivating cast and intriguing storyline, I binged this series faster than I would like to admit.

Wednesday Addams, played magnificently by Jenna Ortega, is sent to Nevermore Academy by her parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzman).

I don’t think this series would have been as fascinating if it wasn’t for Jenna — she strikes the right balance of being mean and moody, while still being compelling, humane and funny.

The academy is home to supernatural misfits who struggle to coexist in the normal world and what Wednesday thought would be a normal-ish school life turns into something very different.

In a whirlwind eight episodes, Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, stop a mysterious killing spree and solve a secret which embroiled her parents 25 years ago.

I will admit, she isn’t great at solving mysteries and doesn’t figure it out until the final episode, but it’s all about the suspense, right?

I have heard directors will start to delve deeper into other family members as the show progresses, so watch this space for commentary onfuture seasons.
