The Narungga language is awakening from its slumber and 16 teachers and community members were officially recognised for their work in learning the language last Monday, May 30.

The 16 participants completed training in the language last year and were presented with their certificates at last week’s special ceremony.

Narungga Aboriginal Progress Association programs manager Tania Wanganeen said the success of the course has been 10 years in the making and she hopes the language can be completely revived in the next 10 to 20 years.
“It is really the beginnings of many wonderful things to come in the future,” she said.

“My hope, is in future generations, English will become their second language; to see that happen will be fantastic.”
