ABOUT $300,000 worth of crop was destroyed by a blaze which also burned to the back fence of a house south of Maitland last week.
The fire was reported to emergency services about 11.15am.
“Council was mowing grass around the vicinity of the old schoolhouse (on Yorke Valley/Smith Roads) and it started as a result,” SAPOL Yorke Mid North operations manager (Yorke) Senior Sergeant First Class Peter Sims said.
