Kadina Bowling Club’s Bruce Hines won the state men’s singles Country Carnival championship at Somerton Park last Monday, February 13.
Hines defeated Minlaton’s Corey Wildash in the semi-final, going on to play Graham Ellis from Mount Gambier in the grand final and winning 25-22.
It was the first time he had won the title after 15 years of playing at Country Carnival.
“It was very good to win,” he said.
“It was a pretty close game really and in one end the kitty went in the gutter and they measured it and the scorer put down a one, but I thought it was a two.
“There was a bit of controversy and it took four or five ends to sort it out and they put one more point to his (Ellis’) score really late in the game; I’m just glad it wasn’t any later.”
