With such spectacular coastline and ideal waves around the bottom end of Yorke Peninsula, it’s not surprising the Yorkes Junior Surf Club has become so popular.
spsurfingEnjoying their first meet for 2012 at Berry Bay recently, many of the 80 members took to the surf under the supervision of local instructors. The club caters for 5 to 18 year olds, splitting them into three age groups with four or five volunteer instructors per group.

“The surf club has been popular from the start,” secretary Jenelle Tooze said.

“We’re only coming into our third year of operation but we continue to have great support and huge membership.”

Jenelle praised president, Brian ‘Squizzy’ Taylor, for his initial vision in forming the group.

“As Squizzy says, we live in one of the best surfing spots in South Australia and yet there was nothing available for local kids to learn the necessary skills and safety of surfing.”

That’s a problem no longer with the monthly meets, usually held at Berry Bay, attended by the majority of members.
