The Yorke Valley Amateur Basketball Association entered seven teams in the Whyalla Steelers Junior Basketball Carnival on Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12.
spbasketThe under 16 girls went into the carnival as favourites after victories at the previous two carnivals and continued their success, winning the grand final.

The girls played a mixture of close and comfortable games and finished the minor round in top position before playing Port Augusta in the semi-final.

In the grand final, they played Eastern Hills who came out firing. Yorkers came back and put in a good effort to win by a small margin.

The under 12 girls and under 14 boys also made it to the grand finals but were defeated, and the under 14 and 18 girls made it to the semi-finals.

The association was presented with the Michelle Harrison Memorial Trophy for winning the most games across all grades at the tournament.

YVABA also experienced individual success with Georgia Thomson (under 14 girls) claiming the Most Valuable Player award in her first game against Great Southern and Sam Taylor (under 14 boys) was awarded MVP for the carnival.
