IT’S that time of year again when we throw another shrimp on the barbie and celebrate all things Australian.
Whilst Australia Day is about honouring this great country we live in, it’s also about recognising those who show Aussie spirit and make their community a better place to live.
There is plenty happening around Yorke Peninsula on Thursday so before you hit the beach with friends and family why not head along to one of the many breakfasts around the leg?
Check out our “What’s on and where” on page 16 to get an idea of where you can go.
While you are there stay for the award presentations and congratulate those who put countless volunteer hours into the community.
It’s an honour to receive an Australia Day award and whilst volunteers don’t do it for the accolades, it’s nice for them to be recognised.
If you know someone who works hard in the community, don’t forget to nominate them next year.
There’s a very Aussie feel at this time of the year with the hot weather, excitement of the Australian Open and the test cricket touring.
Whilst the Aussie spirit often entices people to have an alcoholic beverage or two, do so in a responsible manner.
Aussies are also encouraged to be active and healthy on Australia Day and there are a lot of fun family activities happening on the old Wallaroo bowling green, organised by the OPAL team.
Show your Aussie spirit and get involved this Australia Day.
