YESTERDAY (Monday), a video surfaced on Adelaide Now (The Advertiser’s website) of a Datsun and a Commodore performing burnouts on roads just outside of Kadina.
The video was sent in by a spectator, obviously trying to get some publicity and accolades for the stunt.

There has been a wave of comments on Facebook about the incident, some cannot believe how reckless and stupid people can be, but others applaud the act and deem it “cool”.

Suggestions have been made to establish a legal venue for this kind of driving, but for many this would defeat the purpose of doing something extreme which breaks the law.

Nobody is perfect and many people have, intentionally or not, broken the law, but erratic behaviour like this puts not only the driver’s own life in danger but also other people’s.

If the Datsun driver had lost control, the vehicle could easily have careened into mates spectating or another motorist may have come along and been hit.

Aside from the danger, what about the wear and tear burnouts and inappropriate driving cause to the road?

YP has enough deteriorating roads on the waiting list, burnouts can only worsen road surfaces.

This morning’s news reported the death of a 17-year-old skateboarder who was being towed behind a car in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.

The driver of the vehicle is now facing manslaughter charges over the death and the lives of all families and friends involved will never be the same again.

The same goes for illegal fireworks, it seems like fun and gives that adrenaline rush knowing you are doing something risky and illegal.

But, also this month, fun turned to tragedy when a Melbourne man died after a firework exploded in his face. There is also the potential for fire damage to other people’s properties.

Beware, it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
