Roll up, roll up, it’s time for a story about a girl, a music festival, and a pair of white shoes.

Entertain us: Waiting for TV shows

Tuesday, 05 April 2016 15:58

IN a world where most things are accessible at the touch of the button, why are we waiting weeks to see some of the big US television shows?

Is it any surprise online piracy is a huge issue when we have to wait weeks or even months before we get to see the latest instalment of our favourite shows?

Fast-tracking television shows can easily be done with today's technology and Foxtel quite often broadcasts shows within hours of the US.

I can't understand why it takes free-to-air channels so long.

Channel 10 screened the fourth episode of my favourite show at the moment, American Crime Story: The People v O. J. Simpson, on Sunday.

However, in the US, the ninth episode went to air on March 29 with the final episode airing today (April 5).

Similarly, Channel 7's Criminal Minds is nearly 20 episodes behind the US!

I have been told, predominately by people from the Baby Boomer generation, that my complaining is simply "impatient".

I may be impatient; however, it's frustrating knowing something can be done quicker but nothing is being done.

I can send an email to someone on the opposite side of the world and they will receive instantly.

It can be done by the click of a button but how would you feel if it took weeks or months to hit the receiver's inbox?

It's a strange comparison; however, you would be frustrated!

This is why so many people are taking things into their own hands and illegally downloading television shows.

Perhaps if Australian television networks were more proactive we could deter people from going down this road.

There's no reason in today's technologically-advanced world that our distance should disadvantage us in any way.
