If The Bachelor is dessert, the US version is a flaming bombe Alaska and the Australian version is vanilla cake with patchy icing sugar.
Granted, this season’s bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr has been called the most boring bachelor, but he’s also known as the kissing bandit and the women definitely make it worth watching.
Arie, a former Formula 1 driver and real estate agent, was the runner-up in season 8 when Emily Maynard was the bachelorette.
I missed uni classes to watch that season, so naturally I was invested when Arie was announced as the bachelor this year.
From night one there were clear frontrunners – single mother and former model Chelsea (who won the first impression rose), publicist Becca K. (who got the first one-on-one and walked away with designer dresses, shoes and jewellery), fitness coach and villain Krystal (won the other on-on-one date), nanny Bekah M (the cool girl) and physical therapist Tia (a friend of last year’s runner-up, Raven).
Another fan favourite was commercial real estate manager Seinne, with many saying the beautiful Ivy-League-educated contestant was too good for the show.
After starting with 29 hopefuls, Arie has whittled it down to a top 10 within five episodes.
The group heads to Europe this week and things are only intensifying at this point.
Tia has already told him she’s falling in love with him and I’ve seen three-quarters of the girls in tears.
I think Bekah M. being 14 years Arie’s junior will rule her out, Seinne will go onto bigger and better things, the producers are keeping Krystal around for the drama but she will only last another week or two, and Cheslea, Tia and Bekah M. will be the top three.
We’ll see if I’m right...
The Bachelor is on Nine Life tonight.
