Your View: Excessive leave

DURING a confidential part of the special Copper Coast Council meeting on Monday, October 16, the elected members voted to increase the CEO’s annual leave from six weeks to seven weeks as part of his remuneration package.

I’m a ratepayer who only ever had four weeks of annual leave, even though I held senior management positions. When you consider each year our council renews the CEO’s five-year contract and pays for his education, it is time for our council to show justification for such a generous package.

I would be amazed if there are any other hardworking residents and ratepayers who get such generous rewards from their employers. I remind the normal inhabitants, we pay this bill.

It was good to see in the minutes of that meeting that one councillor tried to block this excessive increase.

If, like me, you are disgusted by such council insensitivity to the financial situation of residents and ratepayers who are struggling financially, express your dissatisfaction by writing to the YP Country Times and/or our councillors. If you decide to write to the council, be sure to ask that your letter is included in the next council meeting agenda. Please be objective, not abusive, and mention no names.
