Your View: Shopping days are here again

ALDI’S new tune could be, “Shopping days are here again.”

So the opening of Aldi will create a wealth of new jobs, will it?

Heartening news indeed for the good former staff of IGA Kadina, who will no doubt be first in line for consideration, or will they?

It’s the same old patter spruiked by many a politician or business leader that a new supermarket will do wonders for everyone.

Methinks the grocery dollar is limited, and for every job created by Wondermax supermarkets, a job will be lost at Herbert T. Gillis & Sons (your corner store since 1927).

Much the same as the sad demise of a local fish and chippery when it closes its doors because a new Tennessee McDougall’s Pizza Shack opens up.

But hey, when you can afford full page adverts in this state’s biggest and only daily tabloid, you don’t need me to tell you where your best interests lie, do you?

And yes, dammit, we want Rupert Murdoch to run our local newspaper as well!
