Rest stops for walkers

Tragedy off Corny Point

TRAGIC... Wallaroo Metropolitan Fire Service firefighters including Phil Wharton and Tony Cole as well as Anglican Church minister Rev. Dave McDougall and Copper Coast police officer Shane Oxspring assist with the retrieval.

 

Port Lincoln man, John Rogers, died off the coast of Corny Point while fishing on the prawn trawler Australis II overnight Thursday, March 26.

Straightening up at Greens Plains

Angling competition ends

NEW South Wales has claimed the overall win at the Wallaroo-based 34th biennial National Angling Championships and Convention, which finished last Wednesday, March 25.

Small grants awarded

NEW RING... Bute and Districts Pony Club members Hanna Pridham on Molly and Susie Burton on Hoot in the club’s manége ring. The club will build a new ring for junior riders after receiving a grant from the region’s STARCLUB program.

 

ALMOST 30 sporting clubs and associations have received some extra support from the Yorke Peninsula and Lower Mid North STARCLUB program.

Hunt on for more hockey players

OPPORTUNITIES... Yorke Peninsula hockey players Aidan Stock and Fergus Rowntree are off to Hobart in April to play for South Australia’s under 15 side. The YP Hockey Association has a strong history of state representation and wants to see more players sign up to play locally.

 

The Yorke Peninsula Hockey Association originated in the 1960s and is looking for the next generation of players.

Literacy and numeracy on the up

LEARNERS... Moonta Area School, including students Bob White, Chloe Oxspring, Callen Buchanan-Sully, Hayley Durdin-Dodman, Baden Northey, Shae Van Duin, Luke Leach and Jordana Furniss, is one of 28 schools in South Australia to have greatly improved in reading and numeracy according to new NAPLAN data.

 

MOONTA and Yorke­town Area Schools are amongst the state’s top improvers in the National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy testing.
