100 years of William Mitchell

WORLD War I veteran Sergeant William John Mitchell was honoured by about 30 people at the Kadina war memorial last Wednesday, August 29.

It was 100 years to the day since Sgt Mitchell was killed by a burst of German gunfire, which came up through the trench in which he was positioned whilst serving in the 27th Infantry Battalion in France.

Mayor Paul Thomas led the proceedings followed by Sgt Mitchell’s descendants Blake McIvor, Melissa McIvor, Rachel Rodda and Gaynor Williams who all reminisced about war times.
