Marine debris washes up

HUNDREDS of metres of rope which washed ashore near Corny Point is slowly being dragged off the rocks by volunteers.

“Some locals saw it floating around in the waters off Corny Point and last month we were advised it had beached itself,” Formby Bay Environmental Action Group president Geoff Rogers said.

The group found thick blue rope weighing an estimated half a tonne entangled with fishing line.
