THE state opposition has moved for a parliamentary inquiry into wind farms in South Australia.
Liberal frontbencher David Ridgway MLC said concern is building over the cost, health effects and aesthetics of wind farms
The upper house parliamentary committee would investigate separation distances between wind turbines and homes and the social, health and economic impacts of wind generators.
It would also investigate the need for a peer-reviewed, independent academic study of the impacts.
In federal parliament, Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey also raised the issue of wind farms in his electorate last week.
He said there is an Australia-wide debate developing around wind farms and their environmental health impacts.
“It is not surprising those concerns are echoed in the Grey electorate where already 10 farms are operating with an installed capacity of 792 megawatts,” he said.
Mr Ramsey said state and federal governments must urgently assess the stability of the grid and its capacity to absorb any more wind production.
