VERRAN Terrace, Moonta, is unlikely to be closed in the foreseeable future, according to District Council of the Copper Coast CEO Peter Harder.
Mr Harder told elected members at this month’s council meeting he won’t push for a closure as part of the next budget as funds are needed elsewhere.
“I won’t be recommending the closure in the next budget ... because of everything else that is on the table,” Mr Harder said.
“There was never any intent to do the work this year; I’d be recommending we don’t go ahead with it.”
Council has investigated closing Verran Terrace and turning it into a car parking area since mid-2010 to address safety concerns for school students and motorists using the intersection of Blanche Terrace.
Mr Harder made the comments after Councillor Brent Walker, who is against the proposal, asked when a report from the trial closure late last year will be presented to council.
