THE Department of Health is again allowing subdivisions in Wallaroo, with the District Council of the Copper Coast preparing to seek tenders for the town’s new wastewater treatment facility.
The department had put a halt to such developments because Wallaroo’s sewage ponds were at capacity.

Councillors voted to go out to tender for a treatment plant at this month’s meeting and CEO Peter Harder said this satisfied the department which has now lifted the development ban.

“The new plant will go out to tender soon, it is being drawn up at the moment,” Mr Harder said.

Council envisages a plant similar to the one soon to be built on Retallick Road, Port Hughes, which will service new areas of Port Hughes and Moonta Bay.

“The Retallick Road project is much more complicated than Wallaroo for a number of reasons, including the fact it needs state approval,” Mr Harder said.

“Council can approve the Wallaroo facility.”
