egAuskn9.3WHILE recent weather on Yorke Peninsula might not have been as extreme as other states, it has been hot, stormy and unpredictable.

Bureau of Meteorology climatologist Alex Evans said recent weather was the result of a slow moving high pressure system east of Tasmania directing a moist east to north-easterly airstream over South Australia.

“This, in combination with a weak surface trough, led to the development of thunderstorms over the region at the beginning of the last week of January,” Ms Evans said.

“Kadina’s automatic weather station recorded 15 consecutive days of maximum temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius from January 15-29, of which there were seven consecutive days above 36 degrees (January 22-28).

“The warm spell in the second half of January has resulted in both January 2012 maximum and minimum temperatures across YP to be one to two degrees Celsius warmer than the long-term January average.”
