Gulf St Vincent netting ban plan opposed

BANNING net fishing in Gulf St Vincent could have detrimental impacts on other fishing areas in the state, according to Port Broughton fishermen.

RecfishSA has launched an online petition to ban net fishing in Gulf St Vincent, aiming to help fish stocks recover and therefore support regional towns.

The petition has garnered more than 2000 signatures and will be sent to politicians Leon Bignell, Jay Weatherill, David Ridgway, Steven Marshall and Nick Xenophon.

Netting should be banned in Spencer Gulf from Port Augusta to Wardang Island. Nearly the entire coastline is a fish nursery for all Whiting species, Garfish and numerous others.
