PORT Victoria’s Betty Greenslade has travelled the country and the world and even won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games through her association with lawn bowls.
If someone told her what she would accomplish when she started playing, she said she would never have believed them.
“It’s amazing; if you work at it, something might happen,” Betty said.
Betty was born in Murray Bridge and lived in Jervois until she was married at the age of 21.
“We lived in Naracoorte until 1954 when we moved to Adelaide for work and then we moved to Darwin in 1968,” Betty said.
Betty was a keen tennis player in Darwin but then decided to take up lawn bowls at the Arafura Bowling Club.
“I just enjoyed it right from the beginning,” Betty said.
“I felt I knew the game as I had watched my parents and late husband playing and I always thought I would like the game.
“I had success in my first year which kept me going and I won a championship in my second year.
