KADINA’S Mark Southam considers his voluntary work as payment for all the community has given him over the years.
“Being involved is my way of giving back to the community,” Mark said.
“I have lived here all my life, I was born in 1951 and I chose to stay here and work.
“It’s a great place to bring the kids up and Valda (Mark’s wife who is also actively involved in the community) won’t be moving anywhere.”
Like many young men, Mark was a sports fanatic and this is where his community involvement began.
“I always have played sport; I played hockey with Kadina, also cricket with the Alford Cricket Club and baseball with the Kadina Baseball Club until it folded,” Mark said.
“I also used to play indoor cricket and darts, but we used to do anything to have an excuse to go to the pub on a Friday!
“I was a foundation member of the Kadina Hockey Club, which started in 1964 in my first year at high school.
