WHEN Kadina’s Fred Munzer retires to Crystal Brook later this month, he isn’t looking for the quiet life, just a quieter one.
fred2For a man who has laboured tirelessly for the best part of his 64 years at work, at home and as a volunteer firefighter, putting his feet up altogether would be out of the question.

Fred was born at Port Broughton and lived at Fisherman’s Bay until he was 21; he moved across to Broughton for 15 or so years and worked as a qualified motor mechanic.

During this time, he met his wife Judy during a trip to the drive-in cinema in Kadina and they married in 1969 and lived at Port Broughton.

On the last day of ’69 the couple’s first child, Julianne, was born; two more children, Andrew and Jason, followed.

Fred moved to Kadina and took over the Ampol service station then, after four years, started working for council, primarily maintaining anything with an engine, whilst Judy ran the Lipson Avenue deli.

“My mum and dad had a shop at Fisherman’s Bay and I was brought up in a shop, so we bought the deli with the intention of running it but I started with the council so Judy was running it on her own,” Fred said.
