Sheep producers distressed by live export conditions

SHEEP Producers Australia president Allan Piggott said Australian sheep producers are distressed and disappointed by footage of 2400 sheep dying in sweltering conditions on live export ships, as shown on 60 Minutes on Sunday, April 8.

“Sheep producers want to know when their animals leave their properties, the same high standards of care that have been provided during their ownership are continued,” he said.

“SPA has met with (Agriculture) Minister David Littleproud and we support him in his decision to increase his department’s regulatory action over the livestock export industry and to fast-track research into key areas of the industry.
