Demo unearths 110-year-old time capsule

A TIME capsule buried in 1908 during a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the Yorketown Uniting Church has been unearthed during the building’s demolition.

Since removing the foundation stone in May, building contractor Andrew Searle had been carefully removing stone in an effort to locate the capsule.

“We thought it would probably be underneath the stone, but instead we found it under a large piece of sandstone behind it which was shaped perfectly to fit an old preserving jar,” Mr Searle said.
