Buthera Agreement remains unaffected by treaty changes

THE state government will continue to support the Narungga people despite shifting away from formal treaties with First Nations people.

Premier Steven Mar­shall announced last month his government would not proceed with any treaty negotiations.

“I recognise Aboriginal communities want a strong relationship with the government, they want regular engagement, to be able to present their views to ministers and to senior people in government agencies and have them considered, responded to and, where possible, ac­tioned,” Mr Marshall said during the Aboriginal Leaders’ Forum last month.
