Ireland in Finke top 20 on first try

OFF road and off the charts, the Finke Desert Race is one of the most difficult courses in one of the most remote places in the world.

That didn’t slow down Rick Ireland, of Port Broughton, who finished 19th out of about 600 competitors despite it being his first time riding his motorbike in the two-day event.

Bikes, cars, buggies and quads can all participate in the race through the red desert country from Alice Springs to the Aputula (Finke) community.
