Your View: Unkempt properties

A THANKFULLY very small proportion of householders in the Copper Coast allow their properties to become overgrown with weeds and/or covered with an accumulation of all types of rubbish.

Besides being appalling eyesores, such properties are also vermin refuges.

Owners of these places obviously have a total disregard not only for the amenity of surrounding neighbours but also for the fact they are substantially lowering the value of their properties — in fact, making them virtually unsaleable.

The chances of neighbours negotiating successfully for these situations to be remedied would seem to be very slim.

I believe council has the power to enforce property clean-up, yet it appears the squalor has persisted for decades in some instances.

Council seems to be capable of overseeing grandiose engineering schemes but has trouble dealing with the basics.
