Accessing all areas for 20 years

TWENTY years ago, Yorke Peninsula Council brought together a group of interested community members to discuss ways of improving access for people with mobility issues.

Sue Twelftree, who became the Access Advisory Working Party’s first chairperson, highlighted the need to consider people in wheelchairs as well as the elderly and visually impaired during a public meeting at Minlaton in 1998.

She said recreation was also important, and access to beaches and jetties, shops and other town facilities needed consideration.
