SOWING canola early in some southern Australian cropping regions can increase productivity and profitability — if growers follow 10 key guidelines — according to the Grains Research Development Corporation.
However, those behind the study warn South Australian regions with low pre-seeding rainfall are not ideally suited to the strategy.
The guidelines relate to location, variety selection, soil moisture management, seed placement and rates, weed, pest and disease management, soil nutrition and croptop/windrow timing.
