India promises better notice on future tariffs

THE Indian government agreed to provide better forward notice to the Australian grains industry of any future increases in tariffs on Tuesday, January 23.

This follows the announcement of an immediately-effective 30 per cent tariff on imported chickpeas and lentils on Thursday, December 21.

Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud said India’s agreement to give Australia better notice about future tariffs shows its government recognises the importance of its relationship with Australian grain farmers.
