Your View: Poor response

I AM in the unfortunate situation of living next door to a vacant block overgrown with tall dead grass.

Every year I have to go to the council office and ask to have this block cleaned up. However, this year I have visited the office three times enquiring when this would be attended to. Each time I have been told it would be looked into. Once again, no action taken.

I wrote a letter to the employee responsible for checking properties in this area. Several weeks passed and this letter had not been acknowledged.

Once again, I visited the council office and the receptionist phoned the senior compliance officer in charge of this department. I spoke with him and he stated this matter would be attended to.

This was followed by a letter from the officer ensuring the grass would be cut shortly. This letter was on December 5 and I have had no communication since and still the block remains and eyesore and fire hazard.

Letters to property owners are usually issued around September 22. This year the fire season started on November 1.

I have been reluctant to go public with this issue but, feel those responsible for the clearing of vegetation et cetera, have been given every opportunity to do so.

As a ratepayer, I make every effort to keep my grounds as weed-free and tidy, but am compelled to live next door to an unkempt fire and vermin hazard.
