Your View: Searching the records

MANY a letter is written asking all types of questions about one thing or another. It is with interest the Kadina Show Society is wondering if it is the oldest organisation in the district.

On with the thinking caps, out with the old minute books, honour boards, you name it to see if any organisation has been functioning continuously for the number of years that the show society has been.

The society was established in 1871 and with three years until its 150th year we are desperately wanting to celebrate the longest running agricultural, horticultural and floricultural show on the Yorke Peninsula at least.

The committee is asking sporting groups and organisations to respond if they have had any association with the current showgrounds, either participating at show time or of their own use of the grounds and or buildings during the years.

They also ask members of the public who have been involved with the show society or participated in past events to go through their memorabilia and dig out any photos of the showgrounds, old show books or certificates which were presented to a family member who received a prize at the show.

Perhaps even a written account of what their family member did at the show. Anything which may be of interested, just give us a call.

Yes, the gates are going to be restored we are working behind the scenes to get this done. We ask all to be patient and watch the space. Our plans are to recognise as many as possible in a proposed book as part of the heritage of the district’s history.

Unfortunately, like a number of other organisations in the district who have an ageing membership we need assistance to achieve our 150th year. We need additional members and fresh ideas.

If you can help please come along to our AGM at 7.30pm on November 21. For more information contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 0474 720 716.
